Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott Named Songwriter of the Year; “Better As A Memory” Written by Scooter Carusoe Captures Song of the Year; Shaw Enuff Songs Publisher of the Year

Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott was named Songwriter of the Year at SESAC's 2008 Nashville Music Awards held at ceremonies at the performing rights organization's Music Row headquarters. Scooter Carusoe was also honored for his song "Better As A Memory" which became a multi-week #1 for Kenny Chesney.

(Nashville, TN): Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott was named Songwriter of the Year at SESAC’s 2008 Nashville Music Awards during ceremonies held today at the performing rights organization’s Music Row headquarters. Scott earned the prestigious accolade on the strength of her co-written hits for her group Lady Antebellum (“Love Don’t Live Here”, “Lookin’ For A Good Time”). A tearful Scott was on hand to accept the top honors.

 

Scooter Carusoe was also honored for his Song of the Year for his “Better As A Memory” which went on to become a multi-week #1 for superstar Kenny Chesney.

Shaw Enuff Songs, the publishing company for Hillary Scott, was named SESAC’s Country Publisher of the Year.

In addition to the songwriting honor, Scott was also presented with a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted Master Built acoustic guitar courtesy of Gibson Guitar by SESAC’s Associate Vice President, Tim Fink.

One of the evening’s many highlights was a riveting performance on gospel standard “I’ll Fly Away” by an all-star ensemble featuring Jim Lauderdale, Jerry Salley, Tammy Rogers-King of The Steeldrivers and Jamie Johnson of The Grascals in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the “Brumley Gospel Sing”. 

Another musical bright spot was a stunning performance by  Jimmy Wayne’s of his #1 hit, “Do You Believe Me Now” which was co-written by SESAC’s Tim Johnson.  

Following tradition, SESAC recognized the major impact and growing relevance of the Americana format during the evening’s festivities handing out awards to several top artists and songwriters in the genre including Ray Wylie Hubbard, Sonny Landreth, Allison Moorer and Kevin Welch.

In addition to the Songwriter, Publisher and Song of the Year awards, many other singles received performance activity awards:
